Tadala Birth Care

The meaning of "Tadala"

Tadala means "we have been blessed" in Chichewa, the national language of Malawi.

It felt like such a fitting name for what I get to do as I work with families who are being blessed in one of the biggest ways possible by bringing a new baby into their family. And it encapsulates how I feel about getting to be a part of that wonderful journey! I am so thankful to get to work with families in this process.

Birth & postpartum doula support in the Portland Oregon metro area

As a doula, I love to provide care for people from diverse backgrounds throughout their journey of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. With a focus on African, immigrant, and refugee communities, I am committed to bridging cultural gaps and ensuring every person receives the care and understanding they deserve.

Many immigrants and refugees are living in a new place where they do not have family and friends there to support them. On top of that, many people also have to face learning a new language, a new system, and the difficulties of their individual pregnancy or birth. My passion is to create a world where no one has to go through this time alone. By offering personalized care that aligns with each client's unique needs, beliefs, and traditions, I aim to create a sense of trust and confidence throughout the birthing process. I will step in to be your advocate, friend, confidant, protector, and take care of you like a mother. Every new mother needs to be taken care of herself.

Whether you're seeking guidance during pregnancy, assistance during labor, or support in the postpartum period, I am here to support you every step of the way.

What is a doula?

A doula provides physical, emotional, and informational support to people before, during, and shortly after childbirth. The role of a doula is to help women have the most satisfying experience possible by offering personalized care, guidance, and advocacy.

Unlike medical professionals, doulas do not perform clinical tasks but instead focus on comfort and support, helping mothers learn about their birthing options and making communication with healthcare providers smoother where needed. The presence of a doula can help increase comfort, reduce anxiety, and promote a positive birth experience.

"Emily has truly been an incredible presence in our lives. Having her as my doula allowed us to navigate the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum process with more awareness, happiness, tranquility, and optimism. During my labor, having Emily there felt like having a friend who completely understood what I was going through and was ready to support me in every way. Her postpartum visits provided me with the reassurance of having someone to talk to, ask questions without feeling judged, and embrace this new world of motherhood with more ease and peace."
